Rhode Island’s official nickname is “The Ocean State”, a reference to the State’s geography, since Rhode Island has several large bays and inlets that amount to about 14% of its total area. Its land area is 1,045 square miles (2,710 km2), but its total area is significantly larger.

  1. Rhode Island Scholarship Applicant must be a high-school senior and attend one of the high-schools located in the state of Rhode Island;
  2. Rhode Island Scholarship Applicant must have a G.P.A. of at least 2.0 at the time of completing the Rhode Island scholarship application;
  3. Rhode Island Scholarship Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, and Rhode Island resident at the time of completing the Rhode Island scholarship application;
  4. Rhode Island Scholarship Applicant must register his/her name and email address, and scholarship preference with National Academy of American Scholars;
  5. Rhode Island Scholarship Applicant must write an essay in 500 words or less why he/she believes that as an Rhode Island resident, how winning the Rhode Island scholarship will benefit the state of Rhode Island.
